Flowers

Ekhart Tolle, in his book, A New Heaven & a New Earth, says… “when you are alert and contemplate a flower without naming it mentally, it becomes a window for you into the formless. There is an inner opening… into the realm of spirit. They are symbolic of the spiritual awakening that we are beginning to witness now.”

During 2006 I began producing The Flowers, a series of paintings on square panels. These mandala-like paintings started with photos of flowers, mostly from my garden. Each was given a final layer of beeswax and damar varnish adding luminosity and depth.

Looking back I can recall how happy I was working on these paintings. Of course I chose my favorite flowers: petunias, zinnias, bachelor buttons, hollyhocks and sweet peas.
